The official website for the anime film To You in the Beyond — based on Akiko Abe‘s novel Doko Yori mo Tooi Basho ni Iru Kimi e — announced on Friday that Naohito Fujiki has joined the cast as Nishina, the homeroom teacher of protagonist Kazuki Tsukigase who keeps a watchful eye over him.

Story
The story follows Kazuki Tsukigase, a boy who transfers to a high school on a remote island to escape everyone who knows him. On the island, he hears rumors of an inlet where people are said to vanish without a trace. When he ventures there to investigate, he discovers an unconscious girl. She revives after Kazuki brings her to a clinic, but can reveal nothing about herself except that her name is Nao, she is 16 years old — and she whispers the year “1974.”
Staff
The film is directed by Junichi Wada (HIGH CARD) at TMS Entertainment, with a screenplay by Sayaka Kuwamura (Strobe Edge; Josee, the Tiger and the Fish). Hechima (Cosmic Princess Kaguya!) serves as character designer and chief animation director. Shochiku is distributing the film.
Release & Source Material
The film opens in Japan on October 9. Producers Shochiku and Pony Canyon have stated that international release details will be announced at a later date.
Abe’s original novel, illustrated by syo5, was published by Shueisha in October 2017. A manga adaptation by Haruka Chino began serialization on Shueisha’s Tonari no Young Jump website in August 2025; the first compiled volume was released on February 19.
