กลุ่มนักเรียนชุดกากุรัน 33 คนเดินขบวนในย่านชิบูย่าเพื่อโปรโมต動畫 Thunder 3

Tokyo’s Shibuya district was taken over on July 8 by a striking street promotion event celebrating the premiere of new TV anime Thunder 3 (サンダー3). Under the catchphrase “Lightning Warning in Shibuya,” a group of 33 young men dressed in traditional Japanese gakuran school uniforms and yellow sashes fanned out across the area, handing out lightning bolt-shaped Thunder 3 fans to passersby and drawing plenty of double-takes from shoppers and tourists alike.

Reactions from the crowd ranged from bewildered to delighted — many stopped to snap photos and videos, while others asked, “What is this?” or “What’s Thunder 3?” The unusual spectacle generated immediate buzz on the streets.

Comedy Duo Kaminari Bring the Thunder

After the street search concluded, the action moved to the entrance event space of MAGNET by SHIBUYA109, where comedy duo KaminariTakeuchi Manabu and Ishida Takumi — took the stage for a special comedy set built around the world of Thunder 3. The name “Kaminari” means “thunder” in Japanese, making them a natural fit for the occasion.

In their routine, Manabu explained the anime’s premise: “Pyontaro’s little sister Futaba has gone missing, and his close trio of friends sets out to find her — and right now I’ve given the order to search all of Shibuya!” Takumi fired back immediately: “Don’t put middle schoolers to work on a weekday — let them go to school!” — getting laughs from the very start.

Manabu then described Futaba’s distinguishing features: she loves her big brother, stands about 80 cm tall, wears a pink T-shirt and white skirt, and is accompanied by a dog named Pūsuke. When Manabu exclaimed he thought he’d seen her, a backstage crew member was spotted preparing a Futaba panel in plain view — a slip that Takumi pounced on instantly, sending the crowd into fits of laughter.

Then the microphone cut out mid-performance. Without missing a beat, Takumi quipped: “The mic’s dead! Nothing but trouble today!” — turning yet another mishap into a punchline and keeping the energy high throughout.

Wrapping up, both comedians said they had already watched the anime and urged the audience: “Episode 1 is so shocking we can’t say anything without spoiling it — but it’s genuinely incredible. You have to watch it!” They signed off with: “Episode 1 will hit you like a bolt of lightning!”

About Thunder 3

Thunder 3 is based on the manga by Ikeda Yuki, serialised in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine since 2022. The series gained rapid traction on social media for its storytelling and artwork, earning a nomination for the Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taisho 2022 award at an unusually early stage of its run.

The story follows Pyontaro, an unremarkable middle-school boy, who teams up with classmates Tsubame and Hiroshi — the trio known as “Small 3” — to search for his young sister Futaba, who has gone missing. What begins as an ordinary slice-of-life quickly escalates into a sweeping action-adventure with twists far beyond anything the characters — or the audience — could anticipate.
