Bandai Namco Filmworks announced on Wednesday that Jun Wakatsuki‘s manga Promise Me the Spotlight (Japanese title: Watashi o Center ni Suru to Chikaimasuka?) is getting a television anime adaptation. The announcement was accompanied by the release of a first teaser visual, and Wakatsuki also drew a celebratory illustration to mark the occasion.
Story
Mizuki Natsuno is the least popular member of the nationally acclaimed idol group Melty Strawberry. Her most devoted supporter is Koichi Okuta, a fan who pours everything he has into cheering her on. Through an unexpected turn of events, Koichi ends up living together with Mizuki under the same roof. He makes her a bold promise: to make her the new Center of Melty Strawberry. What follows is an unconventional partnership between a die-hard fan and his idol as they work together to lift Mizuki from obscurity to stardom — with a marriage proposal hanging in the balance.
Manga Background
Wakatsuki launched the manga in Kodansha’s Shonen Magazine Edge in 2022. When the magazine ceased publication in 2023, the series moved to Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app. It is also available through Kodansha’s K MANGA service. The manga’s sixth compiled volume is scheduled for release on July 9.
