Preview scene cuts from the My Hero Academia special short anime “I am a hero too” have been officially released ahead of its streaming debut at midnight on Monday, August 3, 2026, across all major video-on-demand platforms.
A Decade of My Hero Academia
My Hero Academia (僕のヒーローアカデミア), affectionately known as HeroAca, is the hit manga by Kōhei Horikoshi that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha) for over ten years, surpassing 100 million copies in worldwide circulation. Set in a world where superpowers called “Quirks” are commonplace, the series follows aspiring hero Izuku Midoriya — nicknamed “Deku” — as he trains alongside his classmates at the prestigious UA High School to become a true hero.
The TV anime concluded its run last December with the FINAL SEASON, bringing the series to a close across 8 seasons and 170 episodes. With 2026 marking the 10th anniversary of the anime adaptation, the celebratory project 【My Hero Academia The Animation 10th Anniversary】 is currently underway.
“I am a hero too” — Eri Steps Into the Spotlight
The special short anime adapts a one-shot story that Horikoshi drew exclusively for the official fan book My Hero Academia Ultra Age, released in December 2024, which generated an enormous response from fans at the time of publication.
The story centers on Eri, the young girl rescued by Deku from the clutches of “Overhaul” (Kai Chisaki), the young boss of the Shie Hassaikai, during the Hero Intern / Shie Hassaikai Arc in Season 4. The short is set eight years after Deku and his classmates graduate from UA High School, with Eri now a high school student herself.
Throughout the series, Eri had mentioned a dream of wanting to sing, and in the anime’s final episode she appeared with a guitar case on her back, smiling. This short follows her as she returns to UA High School and takes a fresh step toward that dream. The anime version also features special direction added beyond the original manga pages, making it a must-watch even for those who have already read the source material.
Screening and Streaming Details
Before the online premiere, the short will screen at 9 theaters across Japan on August 1–2 (Saturday–Sunday) as part of the “Character Match-Up: Best Episode Screening” event — Vol.2 featuring Midoriya × Katsuki Bakugo, and Vol.3 featuring Midoriya × Tomura Shigaraki — both part of the 10th anniversary project.
