The production staff behind the Digimon anime franchise announced on Saturday that a new anime project is in development and slated to air in 2027.
As part of the franchise’s 30th anniversary celebrations, Fuji TV will also begin broadcasting fan-favorite episodes from the first four Digimon anime series, selected through a worldwide fan vote, starting October 4 at 9:00 a.m. JST.
DIGIMON BEATBREAK Enters the “Kyō Arc”
The currently airing television anime DIGIMON BEATBREAK kicked off its “Kyō Arc” with its 38th episode on July 12. The series originally premiered on Fuji TV and other channels on October 5. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime simulcast alongside its Japanese broadcast, and is also offering an English dub.
A Look Back at the Digimon Franchise
The Digimon franchise traces its roots to 1997, when the original Digital Monster digital pet toys first went on sale. The first Digimon Adventure television anime followed in 1999, with the sequel series Digimon Adventure 02 airing from 2000 to 2001.
- Digimon Frontier — aired in Japan from April 2002 to March 2003, spanning 50 episodes.
- Digimon Ghost Game — premiered in October 2021 and concluded with its 68th episode in March 2023.
The announcement of a new project marks an exciting milestone for fans worldwide as the beloved franchise heads into its fourth decade.
