A trailer and a new set of production stills have been unveiled for the live-action film Tonari no Trans Shōjo-chan (となりのとらんす少女ちゃん), adapted from the manga by Tora Shō.
Story
The film follows Yūta, a teenage boy who begins to feel out of step with those around him as the physical and psychological boundaries of gender grow sharper during adolescence. His world is upended when Yūka — another version of himself from the future — suddenly appears in his room and announces, “I’m you, ten years from now.” Through his conversations with Yūka, Yūta embarks on a journey to discover who he truly is.
Trailer Highlights
The trailer opens with Yūka’s unexpected arrival and her revelation to Yūta. She immediately urges him to begin hormone therapy, while the footage also captures the small but growing sense of disconnection Yūta feels among his male friends at school — and his attempt to suppress those feelings by insisting, “I’m definitely never going to become a woman.” The accompanying production stills document the back-and-forth between the two, and include a warm moment featuring Haruna Ai as Yūta’s mother gazing tenderly at her child.
Source Material
The film is based on “Mirai kara Kita Trans-chan”, one of the short stories in Tora Shō’s anthology Tonari no Trans Shōjo-chan (Zaiya-sha), which depicts the everyday lives of transgender people. The manga volume was released on 14 May 2025.
