Kakao’s manga and novel platform Piccoma has made a double announcement for the hit webtoon Villains Are Destined to Die (Japanese title: Akuyaku no Ending wa Shi nomi): the conclusion of its main story and a forthcoming TV anime adaptation.
About the Series
Originally a web novel by author Gwon Gyeoeul, the story was adapted into a webtoon by artist SUOL and launched on Kakao Page in South Korea in 2020. The series belongs to the widely popular “reincarnated villainess” romance-fantasy genre and went on to become one of the most-read webcomics on the Kakao Page platform.
Story Synopsis
The protagonist is pulled into a game and finds herself inhabiting the role of Penelope Eckhart, the story’s despised villain. Unlike playing as the heroine — where romance comes easily — every possible route as the villain ends in death, whether at the hands of her brothers, the prince, or even a stray fork. Armed with her wits and insider knowledge of the game’s mechanics, she must somehow win the affection of the male characters and survive.

Main Story Concludes; Spinoff Planned
The webtoon wrapped its main narrative in Chapter 214 on Kakao Page in South Korea in July. The creative team plans to take a break before returning with a spinoff. The English-language version on Tapas is currently serialized through Chapter 210.
Publishing in Japan and Internationally
In Japan, Piccoma distributes both the webtoon and the original novel, while Kadokawa publishes the compiled manga volumes — the first arrived in March 2022, and Volume 12 is scheduled for November 17.
In English, Ize Press is publishing both the novel series and the webtoon in print. The novel will span five volumes (also available in eBook and audio formats), with Volume 4 due on September 15. The webtoon adaptation — one of Ize Press’ best-selling titles — will see Volume 9 released on August 18.
