The theatrical film Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica [New] Rebellion (「劇場版 魔法少女まどか☆マギカ [新編]叛逆の物語」) is now available on TVer with a special commentary track by comedian Kano Eiko (狩野英孝), beginning August 10, 2026. The release is split into four episodes.

Kano previously provided secondary audio commentary for the TV Edition of “The Beginning Story / The Everlasting Story” in 2025, watching the series for the very first time. The commentary became a hit, amassing over 3.62 million views on TVer, and fans have been urging him to watch Rebellion ever since.
Kano Eiko’s Comments
Kano revealed that after finishing the TV Edition commentary, he was flooded with messages on social media and YouTube asking when he would watch Rebellion. He had to hold off until the time was right, and now that the opportunity has arrived, he believes fans will be just as thrilled as he is.
On his approach to commentary, Kano said the most important thing is to “genuinely enjoy it.” He noted that audiences can always tell whether a presenter is having real fun or forcing it, and the overwhelmingly positive reception to his Madoka☆Magica content has been gratifying across all viewer groups — longtime fans, newcomers, and his own supporters alike.
His favourite character in this film is Akemi Homura, whom he cheers for with almost anxious intensity. He also shared a touching anecdote: in February 2026, Homura’s voice actress Saito Chiwa (斎藤千和) sent him a birthday message in Homura’s voice, which made him feel truly welcomed by the production’s inner circle.
Asked about view-count targets, Kano said he is not chasing virality — he simply wants to share the joy of Madoka☆Magica with more people and hopes this release will serve as a bridge to the franchise’s latest film.
He also warned viewers that his reactions can get loud, and invited anyone who misses dialogue to simply rewind. As for the film itself, he found that virtually every scene functions as foreshadowing, and even when his theories proved correct, the story still managed to surpass his expectations.
