The second retrospective screening event for Wasurebattery (忘却バッテリー) Season 1 was held on Sunday, August 9, 2026. The event featured a theatrical screening of episodes 4–6, followed by a talk show with three members of the voice cast.

About Wasurebattery

Wasurebattery is a TV anime based on the high school baseball manga by Mikawa Eko, serialized in Shueisha’s “Shonen Jump+” app, where it has surpassed 400 million cumulative views. The series is known for its amnesiac protagonist, compelling characters, a grounded portrayal of high school baseball, and a deft balance of comedy and drama. Season 1, directed by Nakazono Masato and produced by MAPPA, aired from April to July 2024. Season 2 is scheduled to broadcast in 2027.

Guests on Stage

Following the screening of episodes 4–6, three voice actors took the stage: Shimazaki (Tatsuzaki) Nobunaga (Chihaya Shunpei), Ishii Mark (Makita Hironobu), and Kawanishi Kengo (Kirishima Akito).

Reflecting on Episodes 4–6

Shimazaki singled out episode 5 as his most memorable, speaking passionately about the moment the Kotezashi High baseball club truly united as one team — protecting the back of the very person who had once caused them to quit the sport. He also highlighted how Yamada Taro’s raw, unglamorous cheering carries immense power for the team.

Kawanishi focused on the scene where Kei practices pitching at a batting center, drawing on his own baseball experience to describe how moved he was by Kei’s deep, body-embedded passion for the sport even after losing his memories.

Chihaya and Makita’s Complex Dynamic

When the conversation turned to the Hioka match arc near the end of Season 1, Ishii offered a fresh take on Makita: “He’s actually a good kid — just dead serious, that’s all.” Shimazaki strongly agreed, explaining that Chihaya’s cold attitude toward Makita doesn’t stem from contempt, but from a sense of inferiority and deep respect for Makita’s straightforwardness — a quality Chihaya feels he currently lacks.

Miyano Mamoru’s “Advanced Advice”

Kawanishi revealed that while observing the Kotezashi cast from the back of the studio, he witnessed Miyano Mamoru (the voice of Yo Kei) giving advice to Shimazaki after a test recording — a moment that made him appreciate the team’s strong chemistry.

Shimazaki then elaborated: during the recording of a pivotal scene in which Chihaya bares his past, he had been heavily focused on Chihaya’s subjective inner pain. Miyano advised him to be mindful of “an objective perspective and the overall flow of the scene” — what Shimazaki called “advanced advice” that significantly expanded his range as a performer. He was convinced the final take was far better than the test as a result.

The Recording Studio Atmosphere

On the topic of what makes Wasurebattery unique, Ishii described the remarkable on/off switch of the Kotezashi cast: relaxed and lively between takes, then instantly razor-focused the moment recording begins. He admitted that when he first joined the sessions, “it was a little intimidating to walk into that environment.”

Kawanishi said he sensed that atmosphere immediately, and deliberately kept his distance from the Kotezashi group throughout recording in order to maintain the psychological reality of playing a rival school.

The Relay Question Corner

In the event’s relay question segment, Masuda Toshiki and Kaji Yuki (guests from the first event) had asked: “If you compared your position in the voice acting world to a baseball batting order and fielding position, what would you be?” Shimazaki assigned Ishii the role of pitcher batting fourth, citing his energy and boldness. Both Shimazaki and Kawanishi saw themselves as infielders — second baseman or shortstop types — who read the situation and adapt accordingly.

For the next event’s guests, the trio set a deliberately challenging question: “Tell us your personal ‘dark history.'” The prompt drew loud laughter from the audience.

Closing Messages and Next Event

Kawanishi thanked attendees and online viewers, and noted that Season 2 recording is already underway, encouraging fans to look forward to it. Ishii asked fans to keep cheering for the series “as enthusiastically as Yamada-kun cheers for his team.” Shimazaki shared that “even during periods when I’m not working on Wasurebattery, Chihaya Shunpei is always in my heart,” and expressed excitement about the story’s next chapter.

The third screening event is scheduled for Sunday, August 23, 2026, and will feature Asakami Yohei (Todo Aoi), Yamaya Yoshio (Tsuchiya Kazuki), and Kijima Ryuichi (Takasu).
