The theatrical anime film SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT has released an in-film battle sequence showcasing the fierce duel between protagonist Okami (Wolf) and Gyoubu Masataka Oniwa, the formidable warrior who guards the main gate of Ashina Castle.
The footage opens with Gyoubu astride his war horse Oni-Kagege, radiating an overwhelming sense of menace. Fans of the original game will immediately recognise his iconic line: “I am Gyoubu Masataka Oniwa! Haste will get you killed, whelp.” He then swings his cross-spear (jūmonji-yari) wildly from horseback, while Okami refuses to yield — darting around the battlefield with his prosthetic ninja arm and grappling hook. The sequence meticulously renders the sparks that fly as blade meets spear, the thundering hoofbeats of the charging horse, and the heavy, laboured breathing of both combatants.

SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT is a fully hand-drawn 2D animated feature film based on FromSoftware’s video game SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE. The story follows Okami, a seasoned shinobi fighting to overturn the death that awaits his young lord, Kuro. The film opens across Japan for a limited three-week run beginning 4 September 2026.
