What Is Yanineko?
Yanineko is based on the manga by Nyannyan Factory, serialized in Kodansha’s Young Magazine. Set in a world where humans and beastpeople coexist, the series follows a group of cigarette-smoking cat beastpeople — broke, lazy, and utterly devoid of manners — who somehow manage to live surprisingly fulfilling lives in their own grimy way. The manga went viral on social media before making its unexpected leap to a TV anime series.
Episode 7: Kondo Shinsuke (Ninja to Gokudo)
Episode 7 aired on Thursday, August 13, 2026, and its support illustration was provided by Kondo Shinsuke (近藤信輔), the creator of Ninja to Gokudo (忍者と極道). The anime’s official X account shared the artwork with an announcement, and fans immediately flooded the comments.
Reactions ranged from pure hype — “My tension just shot through the roof!” and “Ninja to Gokudo and Yanineko together is the best thing ever!” — to bewildered amusement: “What is even happening here lmao” and “A perpetual motion machine has been completed.” Many simply called it “godlike.”
Episode 8: Itoyama Kei (Zeikin de Katta Hon)
Episode 8 followed on Thursday, August 20, 2026, with a support illustration from Itoyama Kei (系山冏), creator of Zeikin de Katta Hon (税金で買った本). The artwork features the characters Kansai-neko and Kansai Otouto, and it struck a chord with fans just as strongly.
