Manga creator Minari Endo announced via her X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday that she is launching a new sequel series to her Maria Holic manga. Titled Maria Holic: Sono Ato no 12-kagetsu no Ohanashi (Maria Holic: A Story Set 12 Months After), the new series will debut in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Alive magazine on August 27.

Story Set One Year Later

The sequel picks up one year after the conclusion of the original series, marking the franchise’s return after more than 12 years away.

About Maria Holic

Endo originally launched Maria Holic in the inaugural issue of Media Factory’s Monthly Comic Alive in 2006, bringing the series to a close in November 2014. Tokyopop published the manga in North America, and One Peace Books is currently re-releasing the series. The manga inspired two television anime adaptations, in 2009 and 2011, both licensed by Sentai Filmworks.

Endo’s Other Works

Endo is also known for several other manga series:

  • Hatenkō Yūgi — A long-running series that began in 1999 and concluded in 2022. Ichijinsha shipped the 24th and final compiled volume in September 2022. Tokyopop published the manga in English under the title Dazzle. A 10-episode anime adaptation aired in Japan in 2008, directed by Nobuhiro Takamoto at Studio DEEN, with Yasuhiro Imagawa handling series composition and Norikatsu Nakano designing the characters. Sentai Filmworks released the anime as a complete DVD collection in July 2016.
  • Uchūjin no Shiwaza Desu! — Launched in December 2015 and concluded in December 2017. Kadokawa shipped the third and final compiled volume in January 2018.
