Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie – Walpurgisnacht Rising has crossed the 1 billion yen mark at the Japanese box office, achieving the milestone in just four days from its opening on August 28 through August 31.
The film marks the franchise’s first new entry in 13 years and dominated the box office in its opening weekend, ranking first in both ticket sales and total revenue.
Notably, this pace surpasses that of its predecessor, Puella Magi Madoka Magica: The Movie – Rebellion, which opened in 2013 and ultimately grossed over 2 billion yen in its theatrical run. Walpurgisnacht Rising is now tracking ahead of Rebellion’s trajectory, raising expectations that it could eclipse the earlier film’s final total.
Alongside the box-office news, the production team released a new web commercial featuring original footage not seen in previous promotional materials.
