The production team behind the television anime adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa‘s manga Daemons of the Shadow Realm (Yomi no Tsugai) has officially announced a second season. The news broke immediately after the final episode of Season 1 aired on Sunday.
Story
In a remote mountain village watched over by two stone guardian statues, a young boy named Yuru lives a simple, contented life alongside his twin sister Asa—the only family he has left. But Asa is kept locked in a cage, tasked with carrying out a mysterious “duty” for the village. Why is she a prisoner? And what other secrets lie beneath the seemingly peaceful surface of Yuru’s home?

Staff
Masahiro Andō (Sword of the Stranger) is directing the anime at Bones Film. Noboru Takagi, known for Kingdom seasons 3–6 and the first four seasons of Golden Kamuy, is handling series composition. Nobuhiro Arai (Bungo Stray Dogs) serves as character designer and chief animation director, while Kenichiro Suehiro — whose credits include Golden Kamuy and the Re:ZERO franchise — is composing the score.
Broadcast & Streaming
Season 1 premiered on April 4 on Tokyo MX, BS11, Gunma TV, and Tochigi TV, among other regional channels across Japan, running for two consecutive cours. Crunchyroll holds first-window streaming rights and has been offering a same-day English dub.
About the Manga
Arakawa — beloved for Fullmetal Alchemist and Silver Spoon — launched Yomi no Tsugai in Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine in December 2021. The 13th compiled volume was released on July 10.
