Kadokawa has released a third teaser promotional video and new teaser visual for the upcoming television anime adaptation of Kureha‘s light novel series Bride of the Barrier Master (Kekkaishi no Ichirinka), along with five newly announced cast members. The company also confirmed the anime will stream on Netflix and other streaming platforms.
New Cast
Joining previously announced leads Akari Kitō as Hana Ichise and Kikunosuke Toya as Saku Ichinomiya are five additional voice actors:
- Kanon Takao as Hazuki Ichise, Hana’s twin sister
- Hiroto Shimizu as Nozomi Ichinomiya, Saku’s younger brother
- Yuzuki Tamukai as Azuha, Hana’s shikigami that rests in her hair like an ornament
- Taihi Kimura as Aoi, a shikigami in human form created by Hana
- M.A.O as Miyabi, another shikigami in human form created by Hana

The anime is being produced at TROYCA under the direction of Tōru Kitahata, known for Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It and Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf! Minami Murayama is handling character design, while Yūko Kakihara (Blue Box, Cells at Work!, Urusei Yatsura 2022 & 2024) is overseeing series scripts. Music is being composed by Yukari Hashimoto (Mr. Osomatsu, Penguindrum), Ruka Kawada (Is the Order a Rabbit?, Isekai Quartet), and R.O.N (Kusunoki’s Garden of Gods, FLCL Alternative).
Story
For thousands of years, Japan has been protected by five clans wielding barrier-weaving magic. Eighteen-year-old Hana Ichise, born to a branch family of one such clan, has always lived in the shadow of her more capable, beautiful, and popular twin sister. When a powerful ability awakens within her, Hana chooses to conceal it in order to live a quiet, unremarkable life. That plan is threatened when Saku Ichinomiya becomes the new head of the Ichinomiya clan and begins searching for a bride strong enough to stand at his side. Determined to keep her power hidden, Hana does her best to avoid him — but will the promise of a peaceful future be enough to tempt her into signing a marriage contract?
Source Material
Kadokawa published the first volume of the light novel series, illustrated by Bodax, in December 2021. The seventh volume followed on June 16, with the series now boasting over 2.5 million copies in circulation. A manga adaptation by Odayaka has been serialized in Kadokawa’s B’s-LOG COMIC digital magazine since March 2022; its eighth compiled volume was released on July 31. Yen Press publishes both the light novels and manga adaptation in English.
