The International Emmy Awards has announced its nominees for this year, with two Japanese anime productions earning nods: Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 and the stop-motion animated series My Melody & Kuromi. Winners will be revealed on November 23 in New York City.
Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26
The eight-episode anime made its world premiere in October 2025 at the Global Stage Hollywood Film Festival 2025, held at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatre in Hollywood. It subsequently ran for two weeks across nine cinemas in Japan during the same month, screened in two four-episode parts.
The first part comprises A Couple Clucking Chickens Were Still Kickin’ in the Schoolyard, Sasaki Stopped a Bullet, Love is Blind, and Shikaku. The second part includes Mermaid Rhapsody, Woke-Up-as-a-Girl Syndrome, Nayuta of the Prophecy, and Sisters.
The series also received a two-week theatrical run in South Korea at MEGABOX theaters. Additionally, two episodes — A Couple Clucking Chickens Were Still Kickin’ in the Schoolyard and Shikaku — were nominated in the Short Film category at the Bucheon International Animation Festival.
On the manga side, Viz Media holds the English-language license for both compiled collections: Tatsuki Fujimoto Before Chainsaw Man: 17-21 (released January 2023) and Tatsuki Fujimoto Before Chainsaw Man: 22-26 (released April 2023). Shueisha originally published the two compiled volumes in Japan in October and November 2021, respectively.
My Melody & Kuromi (Stop-Motion Series)
Set in Mariland, the home of My Melody and Kuromi, the stop-motion series is described by Netflix as follows:
My Melody opens a cake shop in Mariland. After encountering a heart in the forest, strange things start happening around her. Meanwhile, Kuromi’s Japanese sweets shop across the street is always empty. Kuromi searches for the secret to My Melody’s cakes. My Melody and Kuromi work hard to prepare for a sweets-making contest judged by world-famous pastry chef Pistachio. However, no one knows that this will lead to an incident that threatens the fate of Mariland.
The series was directed by Tomoki Misato, known for the Pui Pui Molcar stop-motion television series, and produced at TORUKU from WIT STUDIO. Shūko Nemoto wrote the scripts, and LE SSERAFIM performed the theme song “Kawaii (Prod. Gen Hoshino).”
The series previously took home the Best Animation award at Singapore’s 2025 Asian Academy Creative Awards.
