Cast Comments
Oyauchi Reo (Shinokawa Fumika)
I’m truly happy to be part of a work that has been loved for so long. The world of this story — where old books gradually unravel people’s pasts and feelings, blending the fantastical with a grounded sense of reality — drew me in completely. Fumika is bright and sociable, the polar opposite of her sister Shioriko, but the warmth between them as sisters is one of the story’s great charms. I can’t wait to see how the world of this work comes to life through animation.
Takagi Wataru (Shida)
I’m Takagi Wataru, playing Shida. He may look like a suspicious old man at first glance, but his passion for books and his skills as a book dealer are second to none (laughs). Trading lines with the actors playing Shioriko and Daisuke was a lot of fun. I want to bring Shida’s rough-around-the-edges charm to life with a little playfulness that’s true to myself. Please look forward to it!
Azakami Yohei (Kasai Kikuya)
While getting to know this work, I realized I hadn’t been reading books lately, so I deliberately picked up a paper novel. The images that expand with every page turn, the texture of the paper, the sound of the pages — I remembered the joy of reading all over again. Kasai Kikuya, whom I play, is a book dealer that Shida calls “the Baron.” I brought that love of books with me into the recording booth.
Kamijo Saeko (Kosuge Nao)
When I first met her through the text, I thought, what a brave and helpless girl — I just couldn’t leave her alone. I remember feeling something close to a protective instinct before I even thought about the audition. I told myself I would meet her again only when I heard the word “passed,” and kept the original novel tucked away on my shelf. The day that news arrived, I reached for it immediately and rejoiced in our reunion. The connection she brought me is a treasure I’ll carry with me. I’ll pour my heart into this role.
