The production team behind the upcoming fall 2026 anime Kanata kara (彼方から) has released the synopsis and preview stills for Episode 1, titled “Mezame” (Awakening), which is set to broadcast on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
About Kanata kara
Kanata kara is a landmark isekai fantasy manga by Kyoko Hikawa, serialized in Hakusensha’s LaLa magazine from November 1991 through December 2002 — a run of over 12 years. The series has sold more than 4 million copies in total and earned the prestigious Seiun Award, given annually to the year’s best science fiction work.
To mark the series’ 35th anniversary, a full TV anime adaptation is finally being produced, with Noriyuki Abe directing and Studio DEEN handling animation. Original creator Kyoko Hikawa is supervising the scripts.
Story
The story follows Noriko Tachiki, an ordinary high school girl who one morning spots a golden bird she once saw in a dream and chases after it — only to be caught in an accident that hurls her into an unfamiliar parallel world. With no shared language or customs to rely on, she wanders helplessly until she is suddenly attacked by a monster. Her rescuer is Izak Kia Taj, a lone wandering warrior.
Izak, however, already knows the truth: he is the “Tenjouki” (Celestial Demon), and Noriko is the “Awakening” that every nation in this world is desperately racing to claim. Rumors have spread that whoever obtains the Awakening first will rule the world — and yet Izak whispers to himself, “I must kill this girl.” Despite the vast gulf between them in language and culture, a small but undeniable bond begins to form, and the two are gradually drawn into the currents of a grand, inescapable fate.
Episode 1 Synopsis — “Mezame” (Awakening)
One morning, the golden bird from Noriko’s dream appears before her. She follows it without hesitation, but an accident sends her tumbling into a strange other world. Meanwhile, that world is in an uproar — nations everywhere are scrambling to find the “Awakening,” a being said to hold the key to world domination. Bewildered and alone in an unknown land, Noriko is suddenly set upon by a monster, and the one who comes to her rescue is the wandering warrior Izak.
