Story and Highlights
Set in the northeastern Dunan region’s Highland Kingdom, Genso Suikoden follows the fates of those who gather under 108 stars. Young soldier Riou, a member of the Unicorn Brigade, and his childhood friend Jowy are ambushed by enemies on the eve of their return home to the town of Carro. Forced to leap into a waterfall to survive, Riou awakens inside an enemy City Alliance mercenary fort. Working as a captive, he grows suspicious of the Highland Army, and when he reunites with Jowy — who has also ended up in enemy territory — the two escape the fort together to seek the truth in Carro.
A key highlight is the diverging paths Riou and Jowy take amid the chaos of war. In Episode 3, “Monshō,” the two halves of the Rune of Beginning — the Shining Shield Rune and the Black Sword Rune — manifest on their right hands.
