Six new scene cuts from the upcoming compilation film Gekijouban Maebashi Witches: Majo Minarai no Emo Emories have been released, accompanied by comments from director Junichi Yamamoto and series composition writer Erika Yoshida.
A Freshly Reconstructed Compilation Film
The film condenses all 12 episodes of the TV anime — which aired in 2025 — into approximately two hours, while adding new episodes and new music. Among the newly revealed cuts is a first look at the five members of Maebashi Witches in their “Gardening Form,” a costume that never appeared in the TV series, with Yuina Akagi featured prominently.
Director Junichi Yamamoto’s Comment
“Rather than simply stringing cuts together, we worked closely with screenwriter Yoshida, editor Tomoki Nagasaka, and anime producer Shingo Ishizuka to weave together the feelings of the staff, the people of Maebashi, and the fans. I’m confident this is a fresh and energetic compilation film. It’s the kind of movie that will make you want to share your impressions with someone the moment you walk out of the theater — so please stay until the very end of the credits!”
Yamamoto also noted that the film works well for first-time viewers thanks to its accessible structure, while longtime fans can look forward to new scenes, new Witch Verse sequences, and extensive re-recorded dialogue that showcases the cast’s growth in both acting and singing.
Screenwriter Erika Yoshida’s Comment
“The theme of this work is: ‘What’s wrong with maintaining the status quo? (Though it does take effort to stay where you are — so whether you move forward or stay put, I want to choose my own path of effort.)’ The five girls each carry their own worries and desires and begin their witch training to make their wishes come true. But magic isn’t all-powerful — it’s a series of failures and mistakes. Sometimes they overcome them, sometimes they don’t. As they face the wishes of their customers, they make various choices and grow closer together. Give us just under two hours, and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with every member of Maebashi Witches.”
First-Wave Admission Bonus
Early attendees will receive a mini-shikishi featuring newly drawn illustrations by character designer Nozomi Tachibana. There are five designs in total — one for each character: Yuina Akagi, Azu Nisato, Kyoka Kitahara, Choko Mitsumata, and Mai Uezumi — distributed randomly, one per viewing.
