Manga artist Mutsuki Jun, known for Buzzy Noise and Hollow Fish, has launched a brand-new series titled 朱宮茜子の祈り (Akemiya Akako no Inori) in Big Comic Original Issue 21 (2026), published by Shogakukan on October 20.

Story: A Faithless Shrine Maiden Meets an Occult Fanatic

Akemiya Akako is a trainee shrine maiden (kannagi) who tends the shrine left behind by her late mother — yet, despite her role, she holds absolutely no belief in the gods she is supposed to serve. When a children’s welfare facility reaches out requesting an exorcism after reports of a demon (oni) appearing on the premises, Akako visits the facility while flatly dismissing the very idea of such a creature.

There, she crosses paths with Tokiwa Sosuke, a scholar and devoted occult enthusiast. The two polar opposites team up to uncover the truth behind the oni sightings, forming the central duo of this mystery series set at the intersection of science and the supernatural.

The same issue features Aoashi: Ihō no Hito, a standalone spin-off entry from the Aoashi spin-off series by Kobayashi Yūgo. The chapter depicts an encounter between Kitano Ren — the playmaker of Aomori Seiran High School, who previously clashed fiercely with Esperion Youth in the main series — and Date Nozomi, a coach at Esperion Youth.

Additionally, the issue carries a special conversation between Matsumoto Taiyō and French artist Cyril Pedrosa to mark the October 30 tankōbon release of their collaborative work Nanban-jin. It was also announced that on the same release date, Matsumoto’s Tokyo Higoro will be made available to read in full, free of charge, for a limited 24-hour window.
