Anime news site Anime!Anime! conducted a reader survey titled “Which character do you want to cosplay for Halloween?” from October 7 to 14, 2026, collecting 205 responses. Respondents were approximately 40% male and 60% female, with the largest age groups being teens (under 19, ~30%) and people in their 30s (~40%). This article covers the results for female characters.
No. 1 — Haibara Ai from Detective Conan (Meitantei Conan)
Haibara Ai topped the ranking with roughly 11% of the vote. Once a scientist operating under the codename “Sherry” within the Black Organization, she was transformed into an elementary-school-aged child by the very drug she created and now lives under the care of Professor Agasa.
Voters noted that “a lab coat suits her perfectly, but as a genius scientist who works with drugs, a witch costume would fit just as well — I’d love to recreate that intellectual, mysterious atmosphere.” Notably, a significant number of votes came from overseas fans.
No. 2 — Hyuga Hinata from NARUTO -Naruto-
Hyuga Hinata came in second with around 9% of the vote. A kunoichi of the prestigious Hyuga clan of Konohagakure, she wields the rare Byakugan eye technique and is known for her soft-toned ninja attire.
One voter commented: “I want to cosplay as the 19-year-old Hinata from The Last: Naruto the Movie. She grows so much throughout the story, and she carries herself with a graceful, noble elegance that’s truly beautiful.”
No. 3 — Maomao from The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto)
Maomao earned third place with roughly 4% of the vote. The protagonist of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto, she solves mysteries within the imperial court while dressed in her distinctive green top and dark-red skirt — a Chinese-style handmaiden’s outfit. The anime’s third season is currently airing.
Voters were drawn to the costume itself: “The flared skirt doesn’t cling to your body, so you can enjoy the cosplay without worrying about your figure,” and “Her knowledge of poisons is perfect for Halloween, and I’ve always wanted to try wearing Chinese-style clothing.”
