Starting October 30, 2026, the live-action film SAKAMOTO DAYS is available exclusively worldwide on Prime Video. The film is based on the hit manga by Yuto Suzuki, serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump.

Story

Once known as the greatest assassin who ever lived, Sakamoto Taro walked away from it all the moment he fell in love. Now married with a daughter, he runs a small neighborhood shop — and has put on so much weight that no one would ever guess his past.

That peaceful life is shattered when a bounty of 1 billion yen is placed on his head, drawing killers from around the world. To protect his beloved family, Sakamoto must fight again — but he refuses to take a single life, no matter the odds.

Highlights

Lead actor Meguro Ren portrays both versions of Sakamoto — the heavyset shopkeeper and the lean, lethal fighter — using special make-up effects. Director Fukuda Yuichi blends high-octane action with everyday comedy in what is being called a “next-generation hybrid action entertainment.”

Character Guide

Sakamoto Taro

The former number-one assassin who retired after falling for Aoi. He now runs the neighborhood “Sakamoto Shoten” and fights using whatever objects are at hand, never carrying a dedicated weapon. His family means everything to him.

Asakura Shin

Sakamoto’s former subordinate and a mind-reading esper. Sent to assassinate Sakamoto on the organization’s orders, he is won over by the warmth of the Sakamoto family and quits the assassin life to work at the shop. He deeply admires Sakamoto.

Lu Xiaotang

A former mafia member and Tai Chi practitioner now working at Sakamoto Shoten. Cheerful and easygoing, she gets along well with Hana but frequently clashes with Shin.

Sakamoto Aoi

Sakamoto’s wife and Hana’s mother. Sakamoto fell for her at first sight while she worked at a convenience store. Strong, kind, and a great cook, she trusts her husband completely.

Sakamoto Hana

Sakamoto’s only daughter, bright and gentle like her mother. She loves Sugar-chan, the mascot character of Sugar Park.

Mashimo Heisuke

A crack sniper who uses ricocheting bullets to take down enemies. His partner is a bird named Pisuke. He has a habit of showing up whenever Sakamoto is in a tight spot and bailing him out, despite his goofy, scatterbrained personality.

Nagumo

Sakamoto’s peer from their assassin days and a member of ORDER, the assassin organization’s elite special unit. Seemingly carefree, he is a highly capable fighter and master of disguise.

Daibutsu

ORDER’s newest recruit, dressed in black and soft-spoken by nature — yet she wields an enormous electric saw. She usually operates alongside Kakawari, who often has to rein in her free-spirited remarks.

Kakawari

An ORDER member who speaks in Kansai dialect. Cool-headed and sensible, he looks after his junior Daibutsu and uses a nail hammer as his weapon of choice.

X (Slur)

A mysterious figure with an unresolved connection to Sakamoto’s past as the world’s greatest assassin.

Kashima

A cyborg whose body is packed with weapons, usually seen wearing a reindeer headpiece. A fanatically loyal follower of X, he has his sights set on Sakamoto’s life.

Sewa Natsuo

A part-time assassin hired by Kashima. Laid-back and averse to trouble, he’s in it for the retirement fund — but insists on clocking out on time.

Boyle

A hard-boiled assassin with a history involving Sakamoto from their days at the assassin training institution. He lives by the rule of never killing anyone outside his target and wields custom-built weapons with great skill.

Obiguro

A karate expert who teams up with Boyle as a combat-oriented assassin duo.

Tatsu

A silver-haired assassin who specializes in a custom-made poison.

Shin’s Boss

The leader of the assassin organization Shin belonged to. He dispatches Shin to kill Sakamoto, who is considered a traitor for quitting the organization without permission.

Asakura

The director of the Asakura Research Institute, who took Shin in as a child and raised him as a surrogate parent.

Theme Song

The film’s theme song is “BANG!!” performed by Snow Man.
