HIDIVE announced on Tuesday that it will launch an English dub for the television anime Nia Liston: The Merciless Maiden — based on Umikaze Minamino‘s light novel series (Kyōran Reijō Nia Liston: Byōjaku Reijō ni Tenseishita Kami-goroshi no Bujin no Kareinaru Musō Roku) — beginning November 18. New dubbed episodes will drop every Wednesday.
Story Overview
The series follows a legendary, undefeated hero who dies peacefully in bed — a fate she deeply resents, having always wished to fall in battle. She is reincarnated into the body of Nia Liston, a young girl plagued by chronic illness. Undeterred by her frail new form, she sets her sights on one goal: to live and die as a true warrior. J-Novel Club distributes the novels digitally in English.
Background
Minamino originally serialized the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website from 2019 to 2021. Hobby Japan began publishing the light novel edition with illustrations by Jishaku in September 2022; from the third volume onward (2023), Katana Canata took over illustration duties — both artists are credited for original character designs in the anime. The 12th volume was published on October 1.
A manga adaptation by Kabuto Kodai has been running on Square Enix’s Manga UP! service since 2022. The ninth compiled volume arrived on October 7, and the series is available in English via Manga UP! Global.
The anime premiered on October 6 on Tokyo MX, BS NTV, and MBS, and is slated for a two-cour run. It also streams in Japan on ABEMA, d Anime Store, and U-NEXT, while HIDIVE carries it for international audiences simulcast.
