The production team behind the TV anime Akane-banashi Season 2 has released the official key visual, a teaser PV, and new cast announcements. The series is based on the manga by Suenaga Yuki and Majo Takashi, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha).
Key Visual and Teaser PV
The key visual features Akane, Renmaya Karashi, and Koragiki Hikaru set against the backdrop of Yasakatei, a permanent rakugo venue that holds performances nearly every day. The teaser PV showcases Akane’s life as a zenza (opening-act performer) at Yasakatei, introduces the characters around her, and includes voice clips from the newly announced cast.
New Cast Members
- Konjyakutei Asagao — voiced by Yashiro Taku: a zenza performer who meets Akane at Yasakatei.
- Tsubakiya Hassho — voiced by Ueda Yoji: a shin’uchi (top-rank performer) whose warm, gentle delivery draws smiles from every audience.
Cast Comments
Yashiro Taku (Konjyakutei Asagao)
“From the very first time I read this manga, I felt its overwhelming appeal — it uses rakugo as its grand theme, yet it is simultaneously a coming-of-age story, a tale of human warmth, and a youth drama. It could even serve as a textbook for those of us in this profession. I’m truly delighted to have been given the chance to be part of it, and I hope to convey the weight of portraying someone who lives in the world of rakugo.”
Ueda Yoji (Tsubakiya Hassho)
“Stepping into a role addressed as ‘Shisho (Master)’ and joining the series from Season 2 is no small pressure. But thinking back, when I was a child, classical performing arts were far more common on TV and radio, and during my school days I was close with the rakugo club. Those experiences have fed into my work in ways I’m only now appreciating. I hope I can repay at least a little of the debt I owe to that fortunate era.”
Season 2 Story
Akane-banashi follows Sakurazaki Akane, a young woman determined to reach the pinnacle of the rakugo world — the rank of shin’uchi. In Season 2, Akane graduates from high school and becomes the official apprentice of Aragawa Shiguma, taking the name Aragawa Akane as she throws herself into her training as a zenza performer.
Broadcast Information
Akane-banashi Season 2 is scheduled to begin airing in January 2027 on TV Asahi’s nationwide 24-station network (IMAnimation slot) and BS Asahi.
