The production team behind the second anime season of Black Clover released a new promotional video on Sunday, showcasing the series’ opening theme song — “Kienai Riyū” (The Reason that Won’t Disappear) — performed by rock band WANIMA. The video made its world premiere at Anime Expo the day prior, on Saturday.

Director and Staff

Ayataka Tanemura, who directed episodes 153–170 of the first Black Clover anime series as well as the film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, is returning to helm the second season. Tanemura appeared at Anime Expo alongside voice actor Gakuto Kajiwara, who voices the series’ protagonist Asta.

Studio Pierrot will once again handle animation production, and Crunchyroll will stream the new season.

Series History

The Black Clover anime last aired in March 2021 with its 170th episode. The series originally premiered in Japan in October 2017 and was initially planned for 51 episodes, before being extended into a new season from episode 52 in October 2018, and again into another season in October 2019. The anime also aired on Adult Swim’s Toonami block in the United States beginning in December 2017.

The Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King (Black Clover: Mahōtei no Ken) film opened in Japan and launched globally on Netflix in June 2023.

About the Manga

The Black Clover manga, created by Yūki Tabata, launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015 before moving to the quarterly Jump Giga magazine in 2023. Viz Media publishes the manga in English both digitally and in print, and it is also available through Shueisha’s MANGA Plus digital platform.
