Fans of Chiikawa (ちいかわ) have plenty to look forward to, with a wave of new merchandise announced: New Year money envelopes (otoshidama bukuro), gift envelopes (kinpū), Bookmark Collection Vol.6, and Collection File Vol.4 are all on the way.
About Chiikawa
Chiikawa is a manga created by illustrator Nagano, which began serialization on X (formerly Twitter) in 2020. The series follows the endearing yet sometimes surprisingly tough daily lives of characters Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi, winning fans across all age groups. Its popularity earned it the Japan Character Award Grand Prix and a place in the award’s Hall of Fame. The anime, which began airing in 2022, has surpassed 500 million views on YouTube. The franchise’s first feature film, Chiikawa the Movie: Secret of the Mermaid Island — adapting the fan-favourite “Siren Arc” — is currently in theatres and had already grossed 14.67 billion yen as of September 13.
New Year Money Envelopes & Gift Envelopes
The otoshidama and kinpū envelopes each come in three designs, built around the concept of “fun to give, fun to receive.” They are perfect for New Year celebrations or other festive occasions. Sales are set to begin around mid-October at Chiikawa Market, Loft, Hands, general merchandise retailers nationwide, and the APJ Online Shop. Select items will also be available at 7-Eleven stores across Japan.
Bookmark Collection Chiikawa Vol.6
Produced by Bandai, the new bookmark collection measures approximately 135×45 mm with a thickness of about 1 mm. Each bookmark features full-colour printing on a clear material, allowing part of the background to show through — making them great for photos against scenic backdrops as well as for use in books and planners.
