The staff behind Cyborg 009: Nemesis — a new anime produced by Ishimori Production based on Shōtarō Ishinomori‘s classic Cyborg 009 manga — revealed a key visual and confirmed the series’ debut date on Thursday. The first three episodes will launch simultaneously on July 19 at 12:00 a.m. JST on Abema Premium, d Anime Store, U-NEXT, Anime Hōdai, Prime Video, DMM TV, and other streaming services in Japan.

00 Cyborgs Cast

Yūki Kaji leads the cast as Joe Shimamura / Cyborg 009. The remaining 00 Cyborgs are voiced by:

Prior to the 00 Cyborgs announcement, the official website revealed one Nemesis group cast member per week. The full lineup is as follows (note: character name romanizations are not official):

  • Maaya Uchida — Morphone / Nemesis 007
  • Shion Wakayama — Blitz / Nemesis 006

The staff also announced that Kazuhiro Yamaji will voice Dr. Isaac Gilmore, and Tōru Nara will voice Dr. Robert Golbert.

Staff

Hideki Ambo directs the anime at studio Arect. Atsuhiro Tomioka (known for Pokémon) and CHARATEX are handling the screenplay, while sanorin serves as character designer.

The theme song “Taga Tame ni” (For Whom) is performed by Kyōko of the rock band Barbee Boys. The track originally appeared in the 1979 Cyborg 009 TV anime, with Ken Narita and Koorogi ’73 performing the original version and Ishinomori himself having written the lyrics.

Franchise History

Ishinomori’s original Cyborg 009 manga launched in Shōnengahōsha’s Weekly King magazine in July 1964. It has since inspired TV anime adaptations in 1968, 1979, and 2001, theatrical films in 1966, 1967, and 1980, the 009 Re:Cyborg film (2012), Cyborg 009 Call of Justice (2016), and a crossover OVA with Devilman in 2015.

More recently, Tsuguo Okazaki’s Cyborg 009 Bgooparts Delete manga ran from July 2019 to September 2022, and a new manga titled Cyborg 009 Taiheiyō no Bōrei (Cyborg 009: Ghost of the Pacific) — by scriptwriter Masaki Tsuji and artist Masato Hayase — began serialization in April 2024.
