The manga Dandadan by Ryu Yukinobu, serialized in Shonen Jump+, has officially reached its 5th anniversary. To mark the occasion, a special celebratory illustration drawn by Fujimoto Tatsuki — the creator of Chainsaw Man — has been unveiled.
About Dandadan
Dandadan is an occult action and coming-of-age romance manga following Momo (Ayase Momo), a high school girl born into a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun (Takakura Ken), a passionate occult enthusiast. After encountering overwhelming supernatural phenomena, the two gain hidden powers and cursed abilities, which they use to battle the paranormal — all while being swept up in a fateful romance.
The TV anime adaptation aired its first season in October 2024, with Season 2 following in July 2025. A third season has already been confirmed to be in production.
Fujimoto Tatsuki’s Illustration
Fujimoto Tatsuki shares a special connection with Ryu Yukinobu, having previously worked together with Ryu as his assistant. The congratulatory artwork features Okarun and has delighted fans of both creators.
Ryu commented warmly: “Fujimoto, thank you so much for the celebratory illustration! It’s rare to get something like this, so I’m really happy! Feel free to draw more! And hurry up and draw your next work! Also — you’ve become Fujimoto Tariki, you forgot the dakuten on ツ!” — a playful jab at Fujimoto for misspelling his own name by omitting the diacritical marks on the katakana ツ, turning “Tatsuki” into “Tariki.”
On X (formerly Twitter), fans erupted with reactions ranging from admiration — “Okarun looks so cool! I want to read your next work soon too” and “Fujimoto Tatsuki-sensei’s Okarun is awesome~” — to amusement at the typo: “It really does say Tariki, lol.”
Other Celebratory Contributions
The dedicated 5th anniversary website also features illustrations from other notable manga artists, including Kaku Yuji of Jigokuraku (Hell’s Paradise) and Manga☆Garou of Chin Yuuki -Tarou to Yukai na Nakamatachi-. Messages from the Dandadan anime staff, including Wakayama Shion and Hanae Natsuki, are also published on the site.
What’s Next for Dandadan
The excitement surrounding Dandadan shows no signs of slowing down. A stage play adaptation is scheduled to run from August, and the anime’s Season 3 is set to broadcast in 2027, giving fans plenty more to look forward to.
