The production team behind Dark Machine the Animation — the original anime tied to the Dark Machine game and anime project — released the series’ third promotional video on Friday. The video previews the ending theme song “Galaxy Mode” performed by Sandaime J SOUL BROTHERS, which will be included on the band’s new album dropping on October 21.
The team also confirmed that a manga adaptation will launch on September 24 — ahead of the anime’s broadcast debut — on Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha’s Comic Ruelle and Comic Jardin platforms. Kei Kondō is drawing the manga.
Setting and Story
The anime features a unique world in which Dark Machine is a popular gaming metaverse, set in “the not too distant future.” The series is planned for global distribution.
The story is set in 2079, after Dr. Robert Palmer discovered the Palmer crystal — an energy source capable of supplying all of humanity’s needs and more. However, not everyone has benefited equally from this hyper energy source, and underground battles over it have erupted on a global scale. Factory robots once used to cultivate this energy have been repurposed into fighting mechs by underground factions. Compounding matters, small quantities of dark energy are said to reside within the Palmer crystal. Efforts to harness this dark energy using hyper AI technology for combat advantages are underway, though whether mechs can truly control it remains uncertain.

The team behind the pilot trailer that premiered at Comic-Con International in July 2024 has been confirmed to return for the television anime. Kazumi Terada directs at Production +h. The overall project credits Gorō Taniguchi (Code Geass) as creative producer and Hidetaka Tenjin (Macross) as chief mechanical designer. Keiichi Yano is the project’s original creator.
Team Carbuncle — comprising Takaaki Suzuki, Tatsuhiko Urahata, and Atsuo Ishino — handles series scripts alongside newly added writer Satohito Sata. BUCK-TICK performs the opening theme “Sonzai Riyū Kai” (Reason to Live, Renewed).

About the Game
The Dark Machine “asynchronous big team arena shooter” — a 7-versus-7 mech third-person shooter — was announced in 2023 and entered Early Access in 2024. It is developed with Unreal Engine 5, with Yuya Saito as game director and Koji Hakuta as producer.
The project raised over US$8.7 million from more than 6,000 investors, including Tencent, Web3 game platform Immutable, and blockchain company Sui. The game features the blockchain-based in-game currency MACHINA ($MXNA), NFT asset ownership, and an NFT marketplace for direct and peer-to-peer trading. Players can install and play without purchasing any NFTs and receive free NFTs to get started. Decentralized tournaments are a core part of the gameplay experience.
