To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the TV anime Detective Conan (名探偵コナン), based on the manga by Aoyama Gosho, a teaser PV and teaser visual have been released for the anniversary special Case 30 Murder (30号殺人事件). The special will air on September 25 at 9:00 p.m. on Nippon Television’s Friday Road Show programming block.

Story: A Nationwide Counterfeit Currency Crisis

When a newly issued 10,000-yen note featuring the design of Toto Tower goes into circulation, Conan, the Junior Detective League, Professor Agasa, Ran, and Sonoko visit the Japan Currency Printing Bureau’s Nagano factory. Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police Department discovers counterfeit bills at a murder scene and sets up a special investigation unit. As news of the fake currency spreads nationwide, Conan and Heiji head to Osaka, believed to be the source of the forgeries.

Guest Cast

Guest voice actress Ikeda Elaiza plays Satomi Toko, a document forensics specialist at the National Police Agency’s Science Police Research Institute. She examines banknotes found on the murder victim and confirms they are near-perfect counterfeits. Also appearing are Kawade Natsumi, an announcer from NTV, and Masuda Hina, an announcer from Yomiuri TV.

The special is directed by Kamanaka Fumiaki, with screenplay by Sakurai Takeharu. Sakurai described his approach as wanting the anniversary work to feel like a “festival,” drawing in as many regular characters as possible — which led him to choose a counterfeit currency case that could naturally involve police forces from across the country.

New Anime: “Murder on Misohito Island” — Viewers Solve the Case

An original anime titled Murder on Misohito Island (三十一島の殺人) has also been announced — a first for the franchise in that viewers are invited to deduce the culprit themselves. The screenplay is by mystery novelist Okura Takahiro, and the project was conceived and will be directed by Yamamoto Taiichiro, who said the idea had been in his mind for over 20 years, inspired by an “armchair detective” drama he once watched. He added with a laugh: “We originally aimed for zero correct guesses, so I’m a little worried about how it turned out.”

Other 30th Anniversary Events

• Netflix: From September 5 at 8:30 p.m., 30 exclusive “Special Selection” collections — curated episodes organized by character, including Conan, Ran, Shinichi, and Kaitou Kid — are streaming exclusively on Netflix.
• HIKAKIN Collaboration: YouTuber HIKAKIN will live-stream a full watch-through of all 42 episodes of Detective Conan Season 1 on HikakinTV, running September 20–23, starting at 5:00 p.m. each day. Archives will be available until December 31.
• Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2026: A Conan character greeting event will be held on September 19–20 at Miyako Messe in Kyoto. Details are on the 30th anniversary special website.
• Fireworks Concert: On November 21 at Yamashita Pier in Kanagawa, a special outdoor event will pair the anime’s historic opening and ending themes with a fireworks display. Official advance ticket sales are now open on the official website.
• “Himitsu no Conan SHOW Goku” Special: A two-hour variety special produced in collaboration with the TV program Himitsu no Kenmin SHOW Goku is planned for around December. Further details will be announced at a later date.
