Saga Prefecture is set to transform the historic Furuyu (古湯) hot spring district into “Furuyu Kingdom Onsen-kyo” starting July 17, 2026, as part of its ongoing collaboration with the manga Kingdom (キングダム). The initiative runs under the broader project “Kingdom × (Kakeru) Saga-ken ~Do Not Let the Fires of Saga Die Out~” and continues through September 30, 2026.
Background
The project was launched to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Kingdom, the long-running manga by Yasuhisa Hara, a Saga native, which marked the milestone in January this year. Operating under Saga Prefecture’s “SAGA SURPRISE!” promotional platform, the campaign drew a cumulative total of approximately 320,000 participants from across Japan between its January 27 launch and June 14 — prompting the prefecture to extend the project through the end of September.
Eight Photo Spots Throughout the Hot Spring Town
The centerpiece of Furuyu Kingdom Onsen-kyo is a series of eight photo spots spread along the main cobblestone street of the Furuyu hot spring district, each pairing iconic scenes from the manga with the town’s atmospheric setting:
- [1] Furuyu Kingdom Onsen-kyo entrance gate
- [2] A colossal Wang Qi panel — approximately 9 m wide × 8 m tall — bearing the caption “Too big to comprehend!!!”
- [3] Street lamp flags (17 designs)
- [4] “Meritorious Deeds Ceremony” (論功行賞) panel
- [5] A warm footbath spot where visitors can pose alongside a panel of He Liao Diao (河了貂)
- [6] “Three Generals Waiting for the Bus” panel
- [7] Ton-tan-tan Bridge (トーンタンタン橋)
- [8] A hanging banner depicting the Mountain People closing in
Visitors are encouraged to wander the streets in search of their favourite characters, turning the hot spring stroll into a one-of-a-kind Kingdom town-walk experience.
Fei Xin Force Stamp Rally
A layered stamp rally will also run across the Furuyu district. Each time visitors press a stamp onto their card, another member of the Fei Xin Force (飛信隊) appears, with all stamps eventually combining into a single complete illustration. Stamp stations are located at four sites:
- SAGA FURUYU CAMP
- Foresta Fuji (フォレスタふじ)
- Rest area in front of Saga City Fuji Branch Office
- Rest area in front of Eiryu Onsen (英龍温泉)
Stamp cards can be collected at the Fujimachi Tourist Information Center inside SAGA FURUYU CAMP (open daily except Wednesday, 10:00–17:00) or at Foresta Fuji on Wednesdays (8:30–17:15).
Additional Updates from July 17
On the same launch date, a Prize C — original collaboration sticker will be added to the “Kingdom × Furuyu Onsen Campaign” reward lineup. Meanwhile, “Saga Kingdom Airport” (佐賀キングダム空港) will debut a refreshed set of original collaboration sticker designs, ensuring the Kingdom experience greets fans from the moment they land in Saga.
