A brand-new merchandise collection inspired by the anime film Kitaro Birth: Gegege no Nazo (鬼太郎誕生 ゲゲゲの謎) has launched, featuring a specially commissioned illustration across 10 different items. Pre-orders are now open via AMNIBUS.
About the Film
Released in November 2023 as part of the centenary celebration of manga legend Shigeru Mizuki, Kitaro Birth: Gegege no Nazo explores the secret origins of Kitaro. The story centers on the fateful first meeting between the character who would become Medama Oyaji (Eyeball Dad) and Mizuki, and the destiny the two fathers must confront together. The film earned widespread critical acclaim, winning the Excellence in Animation Award at the 47th Japan Academy Film Prize. An enhanced re-release, Kitaro Birth: Gegege no Nazo — Shinsei-ban, featuring upgraded visuals and audio, was also screened.
The “Fighting Back” Illustration Theme
All items in the collection use a newly drawn illustration under the theme “Tatakau Chichi no Senaka ver.” (The Back of a Fighting Father), depicting Kitaro’s father and Mizuki in a striking pose — backs turned, glancing over their shoulders — evoking both strength and warmth.
