STRICT-G, Bandai Namco’s Gundam lifestyle shop, has announced a collaboration with Sanui Orimono — a long-established Hakata-weaving house from Fukuoka — to produce a set of silk coin purses inspired by Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM. The four-piece lineup goes on general sale on November 14, 2026.

About the Gundam SEED Series

The Mobile Suit Gundam SEED series launched in 2002, set in the Cosmic Era (C.E.) where genetically engineered Coordinators and naturally born Naturals coexist in an uneasy world. A sequel, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY, followed, and the theatrical film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM opened on January 26, 2024, becoming the highest-grossing theatrical Gundam release of all time. A new film, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO — set between SEED DESTINY and SEED FREEDOM — is scheduled for January 2027.

Hakata Tradition Meets Gundam Humor

The products are officially titled STRICT-G “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM” Niwaka Coin Purses. Their design is inspired by the niwaka-men, the half-mask associated with Hakata Niwaka, a traditional comic folk performance from Fukuoka. Each purse features a character rendered in the playful, grin-inducing style of the mask. The zipper pull on every purse is shaped like a shamoji (rice paddle) — a nod to Hakata local culture.

Sanui Orimono, the manufacturer, has been preserving the craft of Hakata-ori — a traditional textile with over 780 years of history — while continuously exploring new creative directions.
