One week after the shocking reunion between Rei and his sister Airi in Episode 12 “Men Who Saw Tears” (aired June 13), Episode 13 of Hokuto no Ken -FIST OF THE NORTH STAR-, titled “Blood-Stained Trap” (aired June 20), kicks off the decisive battle against the Kiba Clan, who are holding Airi hostage.

Rei Loses His Cool

Kenshiro and Rei, serving as bodyguards for Mamiya’s village, set out with just the three of them to take on the Kiba Clan. But when Airi — Rei’s sister, long presumed dead — appears before him, the normally composed Rei completely falls apart. He had carried the wedding veil she was meant to wear, living solely for her revenge, and now he nearly walks straight into the Kiba Clan’s spear trap without noticing. Kenshiro has to physically stop him. Viewers noted, “Even Rei almost fell for such a simple trap — that shows just how shaken he is.”

Airi’s Heartbreaking Condition

Surviving, however, does not mean happiness. Airi kneels and says in a frail voice: “Another new master. Where will you take me this time? I will not run. I will obey anything. Please… take care of me.” Viewers were devastated: “Just a few lines and you understand everything she’s been through” and “This is what the post-apocalypse really means.”

Worse still, Airi has not only shut down emotionally — she has also lost her sight. Trapped and without hope of ever seeing Rei again, she deliberately blinded herself with a drug so she would “see nothing more.” Viewers responded with “This girl has been through too much” and “My heart broke for her.”

Madara and the Iconic Catchphrase

The Kiba Clan boss appears with a blade at Airi’s throat, and unleashes Madara, a subordinate so wild that even the boss cannot control him. Madara immediately attacks Kenshiro with beast-like physicality, prompting viewers to exclaim, “That’s not human anymore” and “A post-apocalyptic freak show.” After Kenshiro dispatches Madara with ease and delivers a signature line, fans erupted with their own versions of the famous phrase. Notably, the iconic “You are already dead” line from the Toei Animation series appeared only once in the original manga; this episode featured a similar variant, which delighted fans all the same.

Mamiya’s Brave Gambit and Rei’s Declaration

With Madara defeated, the Kiba boss takes Mamiya hostage to gain leverage over Kenshiro. Mamiya voluntarily offers herself in exchange for Airi’s freedom — a courageous act that moves both viewers and Rei, who declares, “I would give my entire life for that woman!” Fans were quick to praise Rei’s boldness. However, Mamiya’s plan backfires and she ends up a hostage as well, leaving the situation at a knife’s edge.

The KURE 5-56 Commercial That Stole Everything

Right between the A and B parts of the episode, a commercial break delivered the most talked-about moment of the night: a collaboration ad between Hokuto no Ken -FIST OF THE NORTH STAR- and KURE 5-56 (クレ556), the well-known penetrating lubricant from Kure Industry — featuring Kenshiro himself promoting the product. Viewers exploded: “What IS this commercial?!”, “Collab CM lol”, and “Kenshiro’s doing an ad now.” Even after the episode resumed, many admitted, “I can’t focus — that commercial’s impact is too strong.”

The Kabuki Warrior and “Tamaya!”

Back in the episode, a fearless warrior from the Kiba Clan makes a dramatic entrance with a pose straight out of kabuki theatre. Viewers were baffled: “Was that a kabuki pose?” and “So this is their best fighter?” When Kenshiro defeats him and the warrior explodes mid-air while screaming “Tamaya!” (the traditional cry at fireworks), the comment sections erupted: “TAMAYAAAA!” and “Exploding in mid-air and still yelling ‘Tamaya’ — that’s too much (laughing).”

A Cliffhanger Ending — and One Episode Left

The episode ends with the Kiba boss demanding that Rei kill Kenshiro, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats: “It ends HERE?!” and “Wait, next episode is already the finale?” Excitement and bittersweet anticipation filled the fandom as the season draws to a close.
