Episode 2 of the TV anime Hotaru no Yomeiri (ホタルの嫁入り), subtitled “Tennyo-jima” (Isle of the Celestial Maiden), aired on Fuji TV’s Noitamina block on Friday, October 16, 2026. The episode generated significant buzz online, with viewers reacting to the dramatic return of Ogawa Kotaro, the fierce inner strength of heroine Satoko, and a breathtaking dance sequence that deepened the bond between Satoko and obsessive assassin Shinpei.

About the Series

Hotaru no Yomeiri is adapted from the hit manga by Tachibana Oreko, creator of Promise Cinderella, which has surpassed 5 million copies in circulation. Set during Japan’s Meiji era — a time of rapid Westernization — the series follows a terminally ill young noblewoman and the assassin who loves her with dangerous, all-consuming devotion.

Episode 1 Recap

In the premiere, protagonist Kirigaya Satoko was kidnapped and faced with mortal danger. To survive, she proposed marriage to assassin Goto Shinpei, who took her words at face value and swore to protect her — though his expressions of love quickly proved extreme. This “assassin with feelings too heavy to handle” became the talk of the fandom after the first episode.

Satoko’s Resilience Wins Over the Crowd

Episode 2 takes the pair to Tennyo-jima, an island cut off from the outside world. Despite being raised as a sheltered, sickly noblewoman, Satoko refuses to wait passively for rescue. Even in an unfamiliar and dangerous environment, she keeps a cool head, reads the situation, and actively seeks a way out — enlisting Shinpei’s strength while relying on her own wits.

Viewers flooded social media with praise: “Satoko is so cool!” “I love how strong she is!” and “Her willpower is beautiful.”

A Mesmerizing Dance That Deepens the Romance

Another highlight was Satoko’s elegant dance performance, which visibly captivated Shinpei and brought the two closer together. Fans responded enthusiastically: “Too beautiful for words…” “No wonder Shinpei fell for her!” and “The dreamlike animation is absolutely stunning!”

Kotaro Returns — Battered but Determined

Toward the end of the episode, Ogawa Kotaro — Satoko’s childhood friend and bodyguard — reappeared in a painfully battered state, having been punished for failing to protect her. Despite his condition, he declared with conviction: “I will bring Satoko-sama back, no matter what.”

His return immediately sparked debate online. Comments ranged from “Another troublesome hottie has arrived lol” and “He looks like he’s going to be a handful!” to “Kotaro seems just as ‘heavy’ as Shinpei lmao” and “I’m already rooting for the Kotaro route.” Many fans are now wondering whether he will emerge as a second “dangerously devoted” love interest to rival Shinpei.
