The 10th anniversary project for the TV anime Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress (甲鉄城のカバネリ) has officially launched a new campaign titled “Mumei Ranman” (無名爛漫), inspired by a commemorative illustration drawn by original character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto. The original staff, led by director Tetsuro Araki, have reunited to bring this special project to life.

About Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress first aired in 2016 on Fuji TV’s “Noitamina” anime block, produced by WIT STUDIO under director Tetsuro Araki. Set in a fictionalized Japan called “Hinomoto” during a transitional era between the pre-modern and modern periods, the story follows humanity’s struggle against the undead monsters known as “Kabane,” which spread with terrifying speed. The main cast features Yu Hatakeyama as Ikoma, a young steam smith, and Ayaka Senbongi as Mumei, a mysterious girl who arrives aboard the armored steam locomotive Koutetsujou. The series was followed by a two-part theatrical compilation in late 2016 and early 2017, and a sequel film, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: The Battle of Unato, in 2019.

The 10th Anniversary Project and “Mumei Ranman”

The anniversary project kicked off in February 2026 ahead of the series’ broadcast anniversary in April 2026, themed around “Koutetsujou no Towatari” — a journey retracing the past ten years of the franchise. As part of this initiative, the “Mumei Ranman” campaign has now launched, accompanied by a special commemorative movie produced by the reunited original staff — a must-watch for fans of the series.

Comments from Cast and Staff

Yu Hatakeyama (voice of Ikoma)

Seeing Ikoma and Mumei again after so long, they felt just the same as ever — which was a real relief. I don’t know when I’ll get to meet them again, but being able to play Ikoma once more and reunite with this team made me truly happy. I’m so grateful. And please, everyone — get your hands on that Mumei figure!

Ayaka Senbongi (voice of Mumei)

I never thought I’d get to meet Ikoma and Mumei again…! You were all surprised too, right? I’m so grateful to Araki-san and everyone who made this happen. Getting to see their lives one more time was genuinely wonderful. Thank you so much! Please check out the figure too!

Director Tetsuro Araki

Since it was such a special milestone, I went ahead and asked everyone if we could make some Kabaneri again. I’m grateful to all who helped make it happen. Getting to reunite with Mumei and Ikoma made me so happy — I felt that pure joy of doing work you truly love, and it reminded me all over again just how much I love this series. I’d love to find another opportunity to do it again!

Haruhiko Mikimoto (character designer)

It had been quite a while since I’d drawn Mumei, so I went through a considerable number of rough sketches to find the right pose for this 10th anniversary figure (laughs). I’m not entirely sure how much time has passed within the story, but Mumei’s growth reflects exactly the years that fans have waited for this reunion. I hope everyone enjoys “Mumei Ranman” — and if there’s a next reunion, just how much more grown-up will she be…?
