NBCUniversal Japan has released a fourth promotional video for the second anime season of From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman (Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru: Tada no Inaka no Kenjutsu Shihan Datta noni, Taisei Shita Deshitachi ga Ore o Hōttekurenai Ken), based on the light novel series by Shigeru Sagazaki. Two additional cast members were also announced.

Broadcast & Streaming
The second season premiered in TV Asahi’s “IMAnimation W” programming block on July 8 at 11:45 p.m. JST, with additional broadcasts on AT-X and BS Asahi. Amazon Prime Video began streaming the series exclusively worldwide from July 9 at 12:15 a.m. JST.
Staff & Music
The returning core staff includes director Akio Kazumi (Loner Life in Another World, Fist of the Blue Sky Regenesis) at Passione and Hayabusa Film, series script writer Kunihiko Okada (The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy, By the Grace of the Gods season 2), character designer and chief animation director Satsuki Hayasaka, and composer Yasuharu Takanashi (Baki Hanma vs. Kengan Ashura, Fairy Tail).
Rock band Unicorn performs the opening theme “Kurenai no Ha” (Crimson Leaf), while BLUE ENCOUNT handles the ending theme “Mikansei” (Unfinished).
Story
Beryl Gardinant is a self-described humble old man who runs a sword-training dojo in a remote rural village. His youthful dreams of becoming a legendary swordsman are firmly in the past — until a celebrated former student arrives with life-changing news: Beryl has been appointed special instructor for the knights of the Liberion Order. Thrust into a new world, he travels to the capital and reunites with former pupils who have become elite knights, a top-tier wizard, and an adventurer who has reached the highest guild rank imaginable. Yet somehow, they all still want his guidance.
Background
Sagazaki originally published the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website in November 2020. Square Enix publishes the light novel volumes with illustrations by Tetsuhiro Nabeshima, and J-Novel Club holds the English license. A manga adaptation by Kazuki Satō launched in Akita Shoten’s Dokodemo Young Champion magazine in August 2021, with Yen Press releasing it in English. The franchise also includes two spinoff manga. The anime’s first season premiered in April 2025 and streams exclusively on Amazon Prime Video worldwide.
