Summer 2026 anime Kimi ga Shinu made Koi wo Shitai (I Want to Love You Until You Die) aired its fifth episode, “Owaranai Yoru” (The Night That Never Ends), on August 4, 2026. The episode balanced tender moments between its two leads with the series’ ever-present undercurrent of dread — prompting fans to say, “At this point I just want Mimi and Sheena to be cute together without anything bad happening.”

About the Series

Based on the ongoing manga by Aono Nachi, serialized on Ichijinsha’s “IchijiPlus” website, the story is set in an orphanage that secretly functions as a military magic-weapon training facility. The girls are taught to kill, and grieving the dead is a luxury they can barely afford. Fourteen-year-old Totsuki Sheena, unable to accept this life lived next to death, encounters Kagari Mimi — rumored to be the school’s secret weapon — who looks and acts like a cheerful, innocent young child.

“More. More. Do It More.”

The episode centers on the “Day of Return” (返礼の日), a tradition where students pass on belongings they no longer need. Part of the event involves sorting through the underground archive. Mimi levitates books with her magic while half-playing, while Sheena laments that her own magical power can barely lift a single volume.

A classmate named Haru — previously seen as a record-keeper during mock battles — is struggling to shelve books because he can’t reach the higher racks. Sheena helps him out. Fans online were thrilled to finally learn his name.

After Haru leaves, Mimi accidentally scatters books everywhere. Sheena rushes over in concern, and Mimi leans into her, purring “More. More. Do it more. More.” like a cat seeking affection. Fans noted that while Sheena’s magic may be weak, her maternal energy is off the charts.

Esta Senpai Debuts (CV: Shiraishi Haruka)

When the archive work wraps up, the Day of Return festivities begin. A senior student helps Mimi into a dress — and Mimi immediately points at her and blurts out, “The kissing person!” It’s the woman seen kissing someone in the dead of night back in Episode 1. Fans who remembered her erupted in excitement online.

Her name is Esta. She offers Sheena a color-variant of the same dress, saying she used to wear it herself. When Sheena hesitates, Esta quietly says, “Please. Take it. I can’t wear it together with anyone anymore…” Viewers immediately understood: Esta’s roommate had died, and what was being given away were her belongings.

Bath Time — Sweet and Heavy

One evening, Mimi returns from a mission with blood on her clothes — not her own. Relieved, Sheena invites her to the bath. The private bath scene sent fans online into a frenzy. Mimi splashes around happily while Sheena washes her hair, silently thinking: Mimi smells like blood. She killed so many people again today.

In the tub, Sheena asks Mimi: “What if you went to the battlefield and never came back? What if you could never see Fran-sensei or me again?” Mimi simply replies, “But Mimi won’t die.” Sheena tries to explain what war really means — that the enemies she kills also have places to return to, people waiting for them — but once you’re dead, you can never go home. Fans agreed that Sheena’s worldview is the correct one, but noted that this world is so warped that her perspective is essentially powerless within it.

“I’ll Always Be Waiting”

Sheena visits school physician Fran-sensei to talk about Mimi. Fran tells her bluntly: “Nobody thinks what Mimi does is right. But there’s no other choice. That’s reality.” Fans were left wondering what the war is even being fought for.

Soon after, Mimi is called up for another mission — the day after her last one. She grumbles but declares, “I’ll definitely come back today, so Sheena has to wait for me!” Sheena chases after her and calls out: “I’ll always be waiting. Come back without getting hurt.”

Fans couldn’t hide their anxiety. One comment summed it up: “I know Mimi won’t die and Sheena won’t go to the battlefield, so logically nobody should die — but the tension is unbearable.” sana, vocalist of sajou no hana who performs the ending theme Éternel, posted on social media: “This episode gave me so much to think about. Sheena’s honest words at the end were really good… I have a bad feeling though. Please be safe, Mimi.”

Sugiyama Riho, who voices Haru, wrote: “My heart ached at the reality of having to fight to protect the people you love in the middle of war. I don’t know what the right answer is, but the two of them are searching for it together. This story really makes you think.”

Animation studio ROLL2 shared key animation frames from the episode, including the bath scene featuring Mimi’s adorable smile. Thai co-production studio ANIMETIX Production also released production materials.

Fan reactions called it “an incredibly bittersweet ending — genuinely tough to watch” and “a wonderful episode that lets you experience the beauty and cruelty of this series all at once.” The question remains: what lies ahead for Sheena and Mimi?
