The large-scale collaboration between the manga Kingdom (キングダム) and Saga Prefecture, titled “Kingdom x (Kakeru) Saga-ken ~Saga no Hi wo Tayasu de Naizo~” (Do Not Let the Flame of Saga Go Out), has been extended until September 30, 2026. New plans have also been revealed to make the Furuyu hot spring district and Saga Kingdom Airport even more lively.
What Is Kingdom?
Kingdom is an epic historical manga by Yasuhisa Hara, a manga artist from Saga. It has been serialized in Weekly Young Jump since January 2006. The story follows warfare in China’s Spring and Autumn and Warring States period through the eyes of Xin, a boy who dreams of becoming a great general, and Ying Zheng, a young king who later becomes China’s first emperor.
In January 2026, the manga marked its 20th anniversary, with total circulation including digital editions surpassing 120 million copies. The sixth season of the TV anime, which aired from October to December 2025, depicted Qin’s invasion of Ye as a major step toward unifying the land. The fourth live-action film, Daishogun no Kikan (Return of the Great General), released in 2024, earned 8 billion yen, while the fifth film, Tamashii no Kessen (Battle of Souls), is scheduled to open on July 17, starring Kento Yamazaki and directed by Shinsuke Sato.
Project Success and Extension
Saga Prefecture launched the project in January 2026 under its SagaPrise! promotional initiative to celebrate Kingdom’s 20th anniversary and honor Saga-born creator Yasuhisa Hara. The response was strong, with more than 210,000 participants in roughly the first two months alone, from late January through March. As a result, the prefecture decided to extend the project through the end of September 2026.
Popular activities continuing during the extension include Saga Kingdom Airport, the Kingdom Doppa Tsutsumi breakwater certified by Guinness World Records, the Furuyu hot spring tourism campaign, Kingdom x Saga wrapped buses, and decorations along the breakwater at Higata Yoka Park.
New Highlight: “Furuyu Kingdom Onsen-go”
In mid-July 2026, the Furuyu hot spring district will be fully transformed into “古湯キングダム温泉郷 (Furuyu Kingdom Onsen-go)”. The main street area, including its stone-paved section, will be filled with large-scale decorations such as:
- Large Kingdom-style decorative gates
- Streetlight banners along both sides of the road
- Photo spot panels for taking pictures with favorite characters
- Character decorations placed throughout the district

Kingdom x Furuyu Onsen Campaign: New Prize Added
The Kingdom x Furuyu Onsen campaign will add a new prize in mid-July 2026: an original collaboration sticker (Prize C), joining the existing A and B prizes in the “Ouki no Yuyoku” hot spring series. Visitors who stay overnight in the Furuyu hot spring district or spend at least 1,500 yen including tax at participating shops will be eligible for the lottery.
Saga Kingdom Airport Decoration Update
From June 12, 2026 through September 30, 2026, Saga Airport (九州佐賀国際空港) will receive additional decorations in new areas, including the airport tourism information center, the automatic entrance doors, and baggage claim conveyor belts, allowing passengers to feel the Kingdom atmosphere from their first step into Saga.
The design of the original collaboration sticker distributed at the airport will also be renewed in mid-July 2026, featuring Xin and Qiang Hui in a battle scene. The sticker will be available to visitors who purchase at least 1,000 yen including tax of goods or food at the airport.
