คาคุมะ ไอ, โทมัตสึ ฮารุกะ และฮิกาสะ โยโกะ บนเวทีงานพรีเมียร์ Mushoku Tensei III

A special advance screening event for episodes 1 and 2 of the TV anime Mushoku Tensei III: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu, subtitled “Eris Shugyou-hen” (Eris Training Arc), was held on June 20 at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills in Tokyo. Voice actresses Ai Kakuma (Eris Boreas Greyrat) and Haruka Tomatsu (Nina Farion) appeared on stage for a pre-screening talk event.

A New Eris to Discover

The “Eris Training Arc” centers on Eris as she sets out on a journey of swordsmanship training to become worthy of Rudeus. Kakuma admitted she hadn’t expected Season 3 to open with Eris’s story, and described feeling a mix of nerves and excitement heading into the recording sessions.

“I had to show both what hasn’t changed about Eris and how much she’s grown. I hadn’t met this new version of her yet myself, so I was genuinely nervous about that encounter,” Kakuma said. She also revealed she used Rudeus’s growth in Season 2 as a benchmark for gauging how much Eris should have developed.

Tomatsu shared that she was contacted and began recording almost immediately, and while she stepped into the studio feeling tense, the warm welcome from the cast and crew quickly put her at ease.

Surprise Appearance: Yoko Hikasa Brings Red Roses

The event also confirmed the voice cast for new characters appearing in the arc: Yoko Hikasa as Isolte Cruel, Katsuyuki Konishi as Auber Corbett, and Mari Yokoo as Reda Ria.

Hikasa then made a surprise entrance on stage, carrying a bouquet of red roses that she presented to Kakuma. A delighted Kakuma exclaimed, “This is the first time in my life I’ve received a bouquet like this — is this a marriage proposal?” She then announced to the crowd, “Yes! I accept! We’re getting married!” — drawing laughter from the audience.

Eris is Rock, Nina is Paper, Isolte is Scissors

The three voice actresses discussed the dynamic between Eris, Nina, and Isolte — three peers who train together at a sacred site of swordsmanship. Hikasa explained that in approaching Isolte, a practitioner of the Water God style, she built the character around the theme of “water.”

“Water has no fixed form, but it washes things away and lets things flow past. The phrase ‘let it wash away’ came to me. She holds something like a raging current inside, but doesn’t show it — she just absorbs and deflects. That’s the character I wanted to create,” Hikasa said.

Kakuma described Eris as the polar opposite — a fire type — and joked that if the two were in the same high school, they’d never be friends. Tomatsu added that the trio’s conversations work precisely because they don’t quite mesh: Nina has a class-president energy, patiently explaining things to the clueless Eris, while the cool-headed Isolte fills in whatever gaps the other two leave behind.

When asked to sum up the trio’s relationship, Tomatsu called them “rivals who push each other to grow,” while Kakuma offered a more playful answer: “It’s like rock-paper-scissors. Eris is rock, Nina is paper, Isolte is scissors.” A surprised Hikasa accepted being cast as “scissors,” but added, “Rather than facing off against each other, it feels more like they’re standing side by side, looking in the same direction.” Kakuma invited fans to watch and decide for themselves whether that interpretation holds up.

“Welcome Back, Eris!” — A Touching Finale

The event closed with Kakuma using a sword to split open a traditional kusudama decorative ball, which unfurled a banner reading “おかえり エリス!” (“Welcome back, Eris!”). The MC invited the audience to shout the phrase together, and when the hall filled with the chorus, Kakuma responded at full volume: “Then I’ll say it — I’m home!” The venue erupted in warm applause.
