October 24 marks the birthday of voice actor Nobuhiko Okamoto, who debuted in the 2000s and has since won the Best New Actor award at the 3rd Seiyu Awards and the Best Supporting Actor award at the 5th. In 2026, he continues to appear in a wide range of titles including Dead Account, High School! Kimengumi, Hyakki Yakoushou, and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. On the music front, he released digital singles in both April and May, with his 8th mini-album “CollabLab” scheduled for December 23.
To celebrate, Anime!Anime! polled readers on their favorite character voiced by Okamoto. The survey ran from October 7–14, 2026, collecting 450 responses. Respondents were approximately 90% female and 10% male; around 45% were aged 19 or under, with those in their 20s and 30s each making up roughly 20%.
Results: 2026 Titles Dominate the Top Three
1st Place — Katsuki Bakugo, My Hero Academia
Bakugo reclaimed the top spot for the second consecutive year with roughly 30% of the vote. The explosive UA High student is beloved both for Okamoto’s ferocious shouting and the subtle, emotional nuance he brings when the character shows vulnerability.
- “His raw, screaming voice is incredible, but what really moves me is the delicate performance when Bakugo shows weakness. The way his voice evolves alongside the character’s growth is extraordinary.”
- “The scene where he apologizes to Midoriya and the post-final-battle tears were cited by many fans as all-time highlights.”
- “Nobody delivers ‘Kuso ga!’ with that much satisfaction.”
2nd Place — Karma Akabane, Assassination Classroom
Karma jumped from 5th place last year to 2nd with around 11% of the vote. The sharp-witted Class 3-E student — the first person to ever deal real damage to Koro-sensei — drew praise for Okamoto’s ability to shift from a sly, teasing tone to raw, explosive emotion.
- “His mischievous, devil-may-care voice when he’s taunting someone is irresistible. You can tell Okamoto is genuinely enjoying the role.”
- “The scene where he clashes seriously with Nagisa was shocking — that calm voice suddenly erupted. The flashes of madness give me chills.”
- “He’s arguably the character who grew the most across the whole story.”
The March 2026 theatrical release of Assassination Classroom: Everyone’s Time likely contributed to the ranking boost.
3rd Place — Himmel, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
Himmel slipped from 2nd to 3rd but held his top-three position with around 7% of the vote. The hero who defeated the Demon King after a decade-long journey continues to resonate through Frieren’s memories long after his death.
- “He only appears in flashbacks, yet he left behind so many memorable words. Okamoto’s warm, gentle performance is full of compassion.”
- “I expected intense roles from Okamoto, so his soft, warm voice here genuinely surprised me. Just the way he says Frieren’s name is enough to bring tears.”
- “The fact that he voices both young Himmel and elderly Himmel with completely different nuances is remarkable.”
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 3 is currently scheduled to air in October 2027.
Other Notable Comments
- Enjou Souri (Dead Account) — “A protagonist who becomes a rage-bait streamer to pay for his sister’s treatment. His overwhelming cool factor and human warmth make him this year’s top recommendation.”
- Floyd Leech (Disney Twisted Wonderland) — “His mood swings are extreme, and Okamoto nails every shade — from bubbly excitement to menacing coldness and sudden maniacal laughter.”
- Nekozaki Hakure (Tougen Anki) — “The gap between his sweet, innocent-sounding facade and his dark, sexy true voice is addictive. The anime brought the character to a whole new level.”
- Kominato Ryosuke (Ace of Diamond) — “Usually calm, but with a sadistic streak — Okamoto’s subtly sweet voice perfectly highlights that charm. He’s the reason I got into Okamoto’s work.”
