ชิมาซากิ โนบุนางะ ในงาน Opening Event ของ SAKAMOTO DAYS展 ที่ Tokyo Dome City Gallery AaMo

The SAKAMOTO DAYS Exhibition (「SAKAMOTO DAYS展」), celebrating the creative journey behind Yuto Suzuki‘s hit manga series, officially opened on July 17, 2026 and runs through September 6, 2026 at Tokyo Dome City Gallery AaMo. An opening event and press preview were held on July 16, with voice actor Nobunaga Shimazaki — who plays Asakura Shin in the anime — appearing as a special guest.

Seven Zones of Creative Discovery

The exhibition is divided into seven themed zones plus an official merchandise shop:

  • ZONE 1 – Sakamoto Store, Open for Business
  • ZONE 2 – Destruction, Front Lines
  • ZONE 3 – Traces of the Art of Killing
  • ZONE 4 – The Trigger of Resolve
  • ZONE 5 – Eve of the Decisive Battle
  • ZONE 6 – “The Foundation of Today”
  • ZONE 7 – Days Full of Color

ZONE 2 features the “Swirling Line-Art Tower,” a sculptural installation of the red tower severed by the character Takamura, surrounded by floating reproductions of Suzuki’s inked manuscript pages. ZONE 3 recreates the manga’s battle scenes through shattered picture frames and broken glass. Throughout the exhibition, rough sketches, line drawings, and finished manuscripts are displayed side by side, tracing Suzuki’s full creative process from initial concept meetings and name drafts all the way to the final digitally finished pages.

ZONE 4 features a highway-inspired spatial installation along with a digest video covering the story from DAYS 205 to DAYS 221, and a dedicated corner where visitors can compare pre-completion drafts with finished pages. ZONE 7 displays Suzuki’s personal belongings and panels depicting his workspace, as well as color illustrations including volume cover art — again presented alongside rough and line-art stages so visitors can appreciate the meticulous craft behind each finished piece.

Shimazaki on the Appeal of SAKAMOTO DAYS

Asked to describe the charm of SAKAMOTO DAYS in fresh terms, Shimazaki offered a vivid analogy: “In a word, it’s a ‘dark hotpot where every bite is delicious.'” He elaborated: “The pacing between serious and comedic moments is truly masterful. It’s not just fun — there’s a level of surprise that goes beyond imagination, and the action is stylish yet always manages to exceed expectations. It’s a work packed with that kind of joy and quality.”

On his approach to voicing Shin, Shimazaki revealed: “Shin looks like a young guy in his teens, but he’s actually over 20. Because he loves and respects Sakamoto-san so much, he shows his cute, junior-like side around him — but in reality, he went through some very harsh experiences growing up. So I always keep in mind that he’s an adult man who has survived as a professional killer.”

The Mysterious “Black Ball” That Left Shimazaki Speechless

Having toured the exhibition ahead of the public opening, Shimazaki was asked what impressed him most about Suzuki’s work. He pointed to the before-and-after manuscript comparison corner in ZONE 4: “In the rough or line-art stage, a character might be facing forward, but in the finished manuscript they’re shown in profile. The rough already had incredible quality and expression — and yet he still pushed further and changed it. When I tried to think about why, I felt like I was touching on a part of what makes Suzuki-sensei so extraordinary. It takes courage to destroy something that’s already good, and there’s a live, in-the-moment energy to those decisions that makes it all the more remarkable.”

But the single exhibit that left Shimazaki most astonished was a large black ball displayed among Suzuki’s personal items in ZONE 7. “Pens and rulers make sense — of course he uses those,” Shimazaki said. “But there was clearly something out of place. Apparently it’s a ball Suzuki-sensei made by collecting and rolling up his eraser shavings. It’s bigger than a clenched fist — bigger than an onigiri.” He reflected: “I could feel the heat of his trial and error, his sheer dedication, radiating from that black ball. It was a genuinely great exhibit.”

Merchandise Highlights and the “Shin Perspective”

Shimazaki also visited the official shop, where he was drawn to “Shin’s Zip Jacket” with an acrylic badge, commenting: “It has a real street vibe — I’d want to wear it myself.” His top merchandise recommendation, however, was the official exhibition catalogue: “It covers the history of SAKAMOTO DAYS and the trial-and-error journey of Suzuki-sensei, his editor, and everyone involved. Reading it will make you want to come back and see the exhibition again, and it’ll deepen your enjoyment of both the manga and the anime. For me, it’s number one.”

Asked what he would highlight from Shin’s point of view, Shimazaki noted that the Sakamoto family’s everyday life — the store, Aoi, Hana — is well represented throughout the exhibition. “If Shin were here, he’d probably get excited and shout ‘Sakamoto-san!’ like always, but there’d also be something more quietly moving about it for him,” he mused. He then added with a laugh that perfectly captured Shin’s devotion: “Either way, every single section features a scene with Sakamoto-san. That much is guaranteed.”
