Cast
Anzai Chika has been cast as protagonist Arima Hinase, a role she secured through audition.
Story
The series is set in a world where all people are born without a biological sex. Around the age of 12, each person’s body transforms to match whichever gender their heart inclines toward. Hinase, however, reaches 18 still without a gender, and the story follows her as she confronts questions of identity and love.
The original manga ran in Square Enix’s Gangan ONLINE and concluded at 10 collected volumes, with cumulative sales surpassing one million copies.

I’ll never forget the impact this work had on me when I first encountered it at the audition. It made me think deeply about Hinase, about myself, and about what it means to be human. I’m honored to be involved as Hinase, and I feel a great sense of responsibility. Every role is incredibly challenging, and the content is complex, so I’m recording with great care alongside Director Harufuji and the rest of the cast and crew. It’s truly reassuring that original author Yoshimura-sensei comes to the studio every time! That said — it’s not all serious. There are moments of warmth, laughter, and heartfelt sweetness too. Please watch without any pressure!!

The first thing that jumps out when reading the manga is the beautiful two-color artwork. Bringing the turquoise-rendered shimmer of emotions — normally invisible — to life in animation is a deeply rewarding challenge. I’m working hard to translate the characters’ stories into visuals, and I hope as many people as possible will watch.
Hayashi Yuki (Music)
I composed each piece with care, hoping to accompany the delicate emotions at the heart of this story — living as oneself, and facing others honestly. I hope that when voice, visuals, and music come together, they’ll deliver something new and beautiful to everyone. I truly hope this series can become something that quietly resonates with someone out there.
