It has been officially announced that the manga Seibetsu “Mona Riza” no Kimi e. will receive a TV anime adaptation. A first teaser visual has also been unveiled alongside the announcement.
About the Source Manga
Written and drawn by Yoshimura Sen, Seibetsu “Mona Riza” no Kimi e. is serialized in Gangan Comics ONLINE under Square Enix and has surpassed a cumulative print run of one million copies.
The story is set in a world where people’s bodies begin shifting toward their desired gender around age 12 and fully settle as male or female by age 14. The protagonist, Hinase, is the sole exception — still “genderless” at 18. The series follows Hinase as they confront questions of identity and love, alongside childhood friends Ritsu and Shiori, who have already chosen their genders, as well as classmates and adults who each carry their own doubts and confusion. It is a coming-of-age ensemble drama that asks: what is “love,” and what does it mean to cherish something above all else?
Studio Shaft to Handle Animation
Animation production has been entrusted to Shaft, the acclaimed studio celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2025. Known internationally for Puella Magi Madoka Magica, the Monogatari Series, and 3-gatsu no Lion, Shaft has long been praised for its distinctive visual direction and inventive cinematography — qualities that are expected to bring the manga’s delicate, vivid world to life beautifully.
World Premiere at AnimagiC 2026
The production will also participate in AnimagiC 2026, one of Europe’s largest anime conventions, held in Mannheim, Germany from Friday, 31 July 2026. On Saturday, 1 August 2026 (local time), a dedicated panel stage will host the world premiere reveal of the main cast and a teaser PV.
