The production team behind Seishun Buta Yarou wa Dear Friend no Yume wo Minai has released new character illustrations featuring Azusagawa Kaede, Azusagawa Hanakaeде, and Makinohara Shoko, ahead of the film’s theatrical debut.
Character Backgrounds
Kaede and Hanakaeде are both younger sisters of protagonist Sakuta. Hanakaeде suffered cyberbullying during middle school, which triggered Adolescence Syndrome — a mysterious condition that manifested her emotional wounds as physical marks on her body and gave rise to an entirely separate personality known as Kaede. Both characters are voiced by Kubo Yurika.
Makinohara Shoko, voiced by Minase Inori, is a girl who has just entered high school this spring. Having battled a serious heart condition since childhood and once afflicted by Adolescence Syndrome herself, she has since overcome both her illness and the syndrome.
The Finale of the “Aobuta” Series
The film serves as the concluding chapter of the Seishun Buta Yarou series — affectionately known as “Aobuta” — and promises to finally unravel the mystery of Adolescence Syndrome that has persisted throughout the entire franchise. It is scheduled to open in Japanese cinemas on 16 October 2026.
