Story

Corporate drone Arihito Atobe meets an untimely end in a freak bus accident, only to be reborn in a fantasy world as a type of adventurer known as a Seeker. He discovers a rare job class called Rearguard, which lets him provide his all-female party with powerful attack, defense, and recovery support from the back of the line — and as a bonus, simply standing at the rear passively raises his companions’ affection for him. Freed from the grind of office life, Arihito throws himself into his new adventure with fresh enthusiasm.

Background

Tōwa first published the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō user-submission website in April 2017. Kadokawa released the first compiled light novel volume, featuring illustrations by Huuka Kazabana, in November 2017. The ninth volume shipped on September 10. Yen Press publishes the light novels in English.

A manga adaptation by Rikizo launched on Kadokawa’s Comic Walker website in March 2018. Its tenth compiled volume shipped on January 23. Yen Press also publishes the manga in English.
