A livestream event held on Saturday for Shin Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo — the new anime adaptation of Osamu Akimoto‘s beloved Kochikame manga, commonly known as Shin Kochikame — revealed the series’ main cast, key staff, a promotional video, and a new visual. The anime is scheduled to debut in 2027 and will air on Fuji TV, with streaming availability across multiple platforms.

New Video Game Also Announced
The franchise is also expanding into gaming with a new title developed by Shueisha Games and Kairosoft. Titled Kochikame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat (full Japanese title: Kochira Katsushika-ku Kamearikōen-mae Hashutsujo: Ryo-san no Shotengai Monogatari), the game will launch on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, iOS, Android, and PC via Steam. The Steam version will support English, Traditional Chinese, and Japanese text.
The game is a simulation title in which players take on the role of Ryo-san, working to revitalize a local shopping district and aiming to become a billionaire.
About the Kochikame Franchise
Akimoto’s Kochikame manga ran for 40 years before concluding in September 2016, with approximately 150 million copies in print as of June 2016 when the 199th volume was released. Volume 201 followed in October 2021, and Akimoto has continued to publish occasional extra chapters since the series ended. Most recently, a new one-shot was published on August 3 to mark the manga’s 50th anniversary.
The franchise has spawned a TV anime, anime films, anime specials, live-action films, a live-action series, and multiple stage plays. The original Kochikame anime aired from 1996 to 2004, spanning more than 300 episodes.
In May 2025, REMOW announced it would release all 373 episodes of the original anime with English subtitles in the United States and Canada via the It’s Anime YouTube channel — marking the franchise’s first official English-language release in North America.
