The official website for the TV anime based on Jinushi’s manga Smoking Behind the Supermarket With You (スーパーの裏でヤニ吸う二人 / Super no Ura de Yani Su Futari) has released its second main promotional video and announced the official broadcast date. The video also reveals and previews the opening theme “Ichijiku Kemuri” (Fig Smoke) by rock band ZUTOMAYO.

The anime will premiere on July 9 on TBS and 27 affiliated stations across Japan at 23:56 Japan time. It will also be available on ABEMA and Netflix. Viewers in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and India can watch through Crunchyroll.

Story Synopsis
Sasaki is a middle-aged office worker weighed down by endless work. His days feel repetitive and empty, and the only things that bring him comfort are cigarettes and the smile of Yamada, a young employee at the supermarket near his home. One day, after another exhausting shift, he visits the supermarket as usual but finds that Yamada is not working. Disappointed, he searches for a smoking area but cannot find one, until a woman in a biker jacket named Tayama invites him to smoke with her at a secret spot she knows behind the store.
Original Manga Information
Jinushi began posting the manga on X/Twitter in March 2022, before it started serialization in Square Enix’s Big Gangan magazine in August of the same year. The manga currently has eight collected volumes, and Square Enix will release volume 9 on July 24.
Square Enix Manga & Books began releasing the English edition in February 2024, with volume 7 scheduled for July 7. The series is also available digitally through Comikey and BookWalker.
The manga also ranked eighth in the 16th Manga Taisho Awards in 2023.
