Sound! Euphonium The Final Movie Part 2 (Saishū Gakushō Hibike! Euphonium Kōhen), the concluding chapter of the Sound! Euphonium The Final Movie project, has opened in Japanese theaters. To mark the occasion, the production team streamed a special video featuring new footage from the film. Director Taichi Ogawa also shared a commemorative illustration to celebrate the premiere.
The first part of The Final Movie opened on April 24.
A Decade-Long Journey Reaches Its End
Kyoto Animation describes the film as the grand finale of a franchise that has spent over ten years portraying the youth of high school students devoted to concert band. Following the emotional conclusion of Sound! Euphonium 3 in 2024, the story returns to theaters in 2026 as The Final Movie — the long-awaited final chapter of the series.
Tatsuya Ishihara serves as Chief Director and Taichi Ogawa as Director, both of whom have been central figures in the franchise for many years. Jukki Hanada penned the new screenplay, which includes numerous newly created scenes as well as performance sequences not depicted in the television series, crafting a theatrical experience befitting the series’ final chapter.
Akito Matsuda is composing the music at Lantis and Heart Company, with music cooperation from Senzoku Gakuen College of Music. Shoko Ikeda and Kazumi Ikeda serve as character designers, with Kazumi Ikeda also acting as chief animation director.

Franchise History
The original 13-episode television anime premiered in April 2015, followed by the Gekijō-ban Hibike! Euphonium: Kitauji Kōkō Suisōgaku-Bu e Yōkoso “flashback” film in April 2016. The 13-episode Sound! Euphonium 2 sequel series premiered in October 2016, with the Gekijō-ban Hibike! Euphonium: Todoketai Melody compilation film following in September 2017.
The spinoff film Liz and the Blue Bird, focusing on Mizore Yoroizuka and Nozomi Kasaki, opened in Japan in April 2018. Sound! Euphonium The Movie – Our Promise: A Brand New Day followed in April 2019, centering on Kumiko’s second year of high school.
Sound! Euphonium: Ensemble Contest Arc opened in 74 theaters across Japan in August 2023, marking the franchise’s first new theatrical anime in four years. The third 13-episode season then premiered in April 2024, with Crunchyroll streaming it across multiple regions worldwide. That season adapted Kumiko’s third and final year of high school — setting the stage for The Final Movie to bring the beloved series to its close.
